(Greenfield) One person is dead following a house explosion in Greenfield on Thursday afternoon.
The Adair County Sheriff’s Office says at approximately 1:15 p.m., the Adair County Communications Center received a report of a possible house explosion at 2597 Marion Avenue in Adair County. The Fontanelle Fire Department and Greenfield Fire Department, along with Adair County Ambulance and the Adair County Sheriff’s Office, were dispatched to the scene.
Upon arrival, first responders discovered a deceased male inside the residence. He was identified as 51-year-old John David Christensen, the home’s sole occupant. Officials requested assistance from the Iowa State Fire Marshal Division to aid in the investigation.
The cause of the explosion remains undetermined and is under active investigation.
Christensen was transported to the Office of the State Medical Examiner for an autopsy.
The Adair & Guthrie County Emergency Management Agency also assisted at the scene.
