(Sioux City, IA) — Riverside girls basketball could not overcome shooting woes in the 2nd half as West Lyon beat the Bulldogs 46-21 in a Class 2A Regional Final on Wednesday night at Sioux City East High School.
The Bulldogs fell behind 24-16 at the half and only shot 1-19 from the field in the 2nd half as the Wildcats pulled away. Sydney Somers was the only Riverside player to score beyond the first quarter.
Riverside came out a little sluggish as Belah Kramer was able to drive the lane for West Lyon and the Wildcats were 7-10 from the free throw line in the opening quarter and led 16-10 after one quarter. The Bulldogs stepped up their defense in the 2nd quarter and cut the lead to two at one point but West Lyon answered back and led by 8 at the half.
Taya Christie led West Lyon (17-7) with 17 points while Ava Carolan had 11 and Kramer added 8 points.
Somers had 16 points for Riverside who ends their season at 20-4. The Bulldogs graduate two seniors — Adaline Martens and Karlie Miller.
