(Des Moines) A Fire Weather Watch has been issued for much of Iowa from Wednesday morning through Wednesday evening, as forecasters warn that dangerous fire conditions could develop across the state.
The National Weather Service office in Des Moines says strong winds combined with very low humidity will create an environment where any fires that start could spread quickly and become difficult to control.
According to the alert, wind gusts are expected to range from 30 to 45 miles per hour, while relative humidity levels may drop between 15% and 25%. These conditions significantly increase the risk of rapid fire growth.
Officials strongly advise residents to avoid outdoor burning during the watch period. Even small flames can escape control under these conditions.
