(Atlantic) Eight Atlantic wrestlers qualified for the state wrestling tournament at the Class 2A District Wrestling Tournament at Glenwood on Saturday. For their performances, these eight qualifiers are this week’s KS 95.7 Armour Insurance Athletes of the Week.
Braxton Hass (132), Jayden Harter (150), and Donovan Hedringon (190) head to the state tourney as district champions.
Hass enters the tournament with a 51-6 record and draws a bye in the first round. The senior will face the winner of the Brody Olson, Estherville Lincoln Central vs Cade Harlan, Winterset first-round match. Jayden Harter, 51-8, squares off against Dayton Gusman, of Red Oak, in the first round. And Donovan Hedrington (190), 49-8 squares off against Max Lashmit, of Tipton.
Dayton Van Horn (106), Keaton Schroeder (120), Landon Hagen (138), Dreven Smith (175), and Travin Thomas (215) finished as runners-up.
Dayton Van Horn, Junior, 40-15, will face Maddex Mauer, from West Liberty, in the first round. Keaton Schroeder, Sophomore, 42-9, wrestles James Fuller, of Fort Madison. Landon Hagen, Sophomore, 45-17, takes on Kyson Jalas, of Spirit Lake Park. Dreven Smith, Junior, 46-15, matches up against Brady Grier, from Williamsburg, and Travin Thomas, Sophomore, 35-16, wrestles Cash Frey, Freshman, Woodward Granger, 38-6.

The state wrestling tournament starts on Wednesday, February 18, with the Class 3A. Class 2A and 1A first-round matches, and Class 3A quarterfinals will be held on Thursday, February 19.
