(Truro, IA) — Nodaway Valley will have a strong contingent to the Casey’s Center next week at the Boys Wrestling State Tournament — five Wolverines will make the trip to Des Moines and Ashton Honnold will look to further his wrestling legacy. Honnold needed 3 wins going into districts to get 200 for his career but had a bye in the first round before winning by fall at 1:41 in the semifinals and got win #199 in the finals by tech fall over #3 ranked Keegan Long of Earlham. A win in the first round at state will give him #200 for his career making him the 30th wrestler in Iowa history to achieve that.
Caleb Christensen stayed undefeated on the season with a district title at 190 pounds, winning by fall in 53 seconds in the semifinals and getting a tech fall win in the finals. Ty Strode will go to state for the third straight year with a district title at 132 pounds, winning by fall at 2:44 in the semifinals and a MD 10-0 win in the finals. Josh Nelson also won a district title at 106 with a win by fall in 29 seconds in the quarterfinals, holding on for a 6-5 win in the semis and a 15-4 MD in the title match. Keyin Steeve also will go to state with a 2nd place finish at 144.
