(Atlantic) The Atlantic Community School District released the following statement on the termination of employee Jesse McCann:
At its regularly scheduled meeting on Wednesday, the Atlantic Community School District Board of Education approved the Superintendent’s recommendation to terminate the employment contract of Jesse McCann.
The action followed a formal notice recommending termination to the Board. The matter remains under active investigation by the Iowa Board of Educational Examiners (BOEE) and the Atlantic Police Department.
Because this is an ongoing investigation and a personnel matter, the District is limited in the information it can share at this time. Under Iowa law, certain personnel records are confidential and not subject to public disclosure. Additionally, Iowa law governing teacher contract matters requires that personnel proceedings be handled in accordance with statutory due process requirements. The District will continue to cooperate fully with the BOEE and local law enforcement authorities.
