(Griswold, IA) — Griswold will host Sidney in a girls boys basketball doubleheader tonight, coverage on KSOM and Western Iowa Today TV.
The Griswold girls are 10-8 and are red hot — they have won five in a row and Head Coach Aaron Houser says its the first such winning streak for the program in 20 years. Junior Amanda Houser leads the team at 10.2 ppg but Coach Houser says its been another player who has been key to the streak
Griswold beat Red Oak last night 44-34 and Carsyn Adams led the way with 17 points — they face Sidney who is 7-11. The Cowgirls are led by Sophomore Alyssa Dowling at 8.3 ppg and Senior Alyssa Melvin at 8.0 ppg. The teams split their two meetings this year and Houser says they present some challenges
On the boys side, it has been a long season for both Griswold and Sidney. The Tigers are just 1-16 — they lost to Red Oak last night 69-25. Their lone win was back on December 5th in game two to Heartland Christian. Senior Brayden Lockwood leads the team with 9.2 ppg. Tigers Head Coach Ryan Lockwood likes his defense but his team is averaging 22 turnovers a game
Sidney is 3-11 and led by Junior Carter Jorgenson at 18.0 ppg plus Senior Aiden Stenzel averages 11.3 ppg. The Cowboys won the first game 58-48 and Lockwood says they had trouble with their athleticism and their pressure
