(Atlantic) Haley Armstrong and Cadence Kinzie finished first and second, respectively, at the Class 1A Girls Region 1 Wrestling Tournament on Friday in Atlantic, earning berths in the girls state wrestling tournament later this week in Coralville. Their efforts also earned them KS 95.7 Armour Insurance Trojan Athletes of the Week honors.
Armstrong, the No. 1 seed at 235 pounds, received byes into the semifinals. The senior, now 36–0 on the season, dominated her way to the regional championship with pins in just :33 seconds in the semifinals and 1:29 in the finals.
Kinzie placed second at 115 pounds to secure her spot at state. She also drew two byes before pinning her quarterfinal opponent in 1:50 and earning another fall in 3:22 in the semifinals. Kinzie was pinned in the finals but advanced to state as the regional runner-up.
