(Iowa City, IA) — In a battle of Big Ten leaders, #2 UCLA beat #8 Iowa 88-65 in a Big Ten women’s basketball game on Sunday.
Iowa was up 5-2 but the Bruins went on a 11-2 run — after Iowa cut the lead to 13-11, the Hawkeyes had 3 turnovers and made only one basket the rest of the first quarter as UCLA built a 17-13 lead. UCLA extended that advantage to 31-18 in the 2nd period until Chazadi Wright hit a three but Angela Dugali answered with a three of her own — the Bruins led 39-28 at the half.
Ava Heiden scored the first 10 points for Iowa in the 2nd half but Iowa could only maintain a stalemate. With a 49-38 lead, UCLA went on an 11-0 run that essentially put the game away. Iowa could not make another run.
Heiden led Iowa (18-4, 9-2) with 19 points, Hannah Stuelke had 13 points and 8 rebounds, Taylor Stremlow had 12 points off the bench and Wright at 10.
UCLA (21-1, 11-0) was led by Dugali with 22 points off the bench, Kiki Rice had 17, Lauren Betts finished with 16 and Charlisse Leger Walker and Gianna Kneepkens each added 10.
