(Nevada, IA) — Elle Stephens of Harlan is going back to the girls wrestling state tournament. The Sophomore was the regional champ on Friday night, winning the 130 pound weight class with 3 wins and 3 falls. Stephens got a pin in 20 seconds in her first match over Averie Stollo of Boone. In the semifinals, she pinned Ariana Wilson of Webster City in 53 seconds. In the championship match, she pinned Marlee Peyton of Prairie, Cedar Rapids at 1:24.
Stephens is now 17-2 and will be in the 2A state tournament — first round will start at 4:30 pm on Thursday, February 5th. Stephens was a 2nd place finisher as a freshman a year ago.
Denison Schleswig also competed in Nevada but did not qualify anybody for state.
