(Onawa, IA) — A man is in custody after barricading himself in a grain elevator. Police say the man climbed up the elevator in Onawa on Thursday and blocked the ladder with rubble to prevent sheriff deputies from getting to him. It happened around 2:30 p.m. After attempts to speak with the man through a drone, he eventually climbed back down around 4:45 p.m. and was taken into custody. The Monona County Sheriff’s Office would not say if the standoff was related to suspicious fires over the last three days, including one that destroyed the Monona County Fairgrounds on Wednesday.
