(Anita, IA) — The girls wrestling regionals are this Friday and Atlantic will be hosting a chance to qualify for next week’s state tournament. SWAT will be one of those teams in the Trojan gym and Head Coach Tyler South is getting his team ready. Stella Beattie is one to watch for SWAT — she is 31-1 on the season and is ranked #7 at 170 pounds. Beattie lost her only match to Amalia Djoumessi (Joo–messy) of Waverly Shell Rock a couple of weeks ago but South says she will learn from it
Nadia South is 24-8 and could wrestle at either 105 or 110 while Erin South is 26-14 at 130. Both are young — Nadia a sophomore and Erin a freshman but both will be tough outs on Friday
Another to watch at regionals will be Bailey Lillard who is 22-5 and ranked #8 at 145 pounds
Fry is 23-9 and ranked #12 at 120 pounds. Overall South is expecting the Region 1 bracket in Atlantic to be a tough one
Also for SWAT, Megan Gerlock is 26-8 and ranked #7 at 190. The following teams will join Atlantic and SWAT in the regionals: ATU, Audubon, Clarinda, East Mills, Griswold, Logan-Magnolia/Woodbine, Missouri Valley, Red Oak, Riverside, Shenandoah, Sidney, Treynor, West Central Valley, West Monona, and Woodward Granger.
