(Oakland, IA) — AHSTW will visit Riverside tonight in a Girls/Boys Basketball Doubleheader, coverage on KSOM and Western Iowa Today TV
The AHSTW boys are 3-11 have played against some tough opponents and have lost 6 of their last 7 including to St. Albert, Tri Center, and Underwood. Collin Harder leads the Vikings at 12.1 ppg — Head Coach GG Harris is trying to keep things positive
AHSTW will have a size advantage over Riverside and Harris hopes to take advantage of that
Riverside is 8-7 — they beat CAM last Thursday to end a 4 game losing streak but lost on Friday to Tri Center 48-39. Bulldogs Head Coach Nick Kroon says if they double up inside they do not want to give anybody outside an open shot
Riverside is led by Peyton Amdor at 17.7 ppg but everybody can shoot from the outside and Kroon says that Cole Jeppesen has that veteran savvy at the point guard spot to bring it all together
Riverside won the first meeting in Avoca 74-50.
On the girls side, AHSTW is 8-7 led by Addison Carroll at 12.1 ppg — Head Coach Jason McCall says his team has struggled with their shooting lately
McCall says that Riverside is a tough and physical team
#6 Riverside is 15-2 and beat OABCIG last night 50-30 — they are led by Sydney Somers at 13.3 ppg who had 19 points and 8 rebounds against the Falcons. While OABCIG was focusing on Somers inside, the Bulldogs hit 8-18 from three point land and Head Coach Mark Jeppesen loves that kind of balance
Riverside does have to replace starter Karlie Miller who went down with a knee injury in Friday’s win against Tri Center. Tonight, Jeppesen says his team cannot let up against the Lady Vikes
The Bulldogs won the first meeting 48-32 on December 16.
