(Clarinda) Atlantic is the frontrunner in the Hawkeye Ten Conference dual wrestling standings with a 36-35 win over Glenwood and a 71-6 win over Clarinda on Tuesday night at Clarinda.
As expected, Glenwood and Atlantic went toe-to-toe from the opening whistle. The Rams jumped out to a quick 9–0 lead as Ace Cochrane earned a decision over Dayton Van Horn at 106 pounds, followed by Quinn Lane pinning Hunter Kinzie.
Atlantic got on the board at 120 when Keaton Schroeder posted a 10–4 decision over Brody Black, but Glenwood answered right back. Freshman Joseph Leick delivered a technical fall over Colin Harris at 126 to give the Rams a 14–9 advantage.
From there, the Trojans seized momentum, winning five of the next six bouts. Atlantic head coach Tim Duff made a key lineup move, bumping Braxton Hass up to 138 and inserting D’art Hansen at 132 — a decision that paid immediate dividends. Hansen pinned Charlie McDonald, and Hass dominated Benn Christiansen with a 17–0 technical fall to knot the team score at 14–14.
Landon Hagen put Atlantic in front at 144 with a 13–3 major decision over Connor Wear, giving the Trojans an 18–14 lead. Glenwood freshman Tate Buthe answered at 150 with a fall over Carter Hadley to swing the lead back to the Rams, 20–18.
Atlantic responded in emphatic fashion. Kalvin Hayes (157) pinned Trey Williamson, and Jayden Harter (165) followed with another pin to push the Trojans’ lead to 30–20. Glenwood’s Nile Lundvall kept the Rams within striking distance at 175, earning a 9–6 decision over Dreven Smith to make it 30–23.
Needing a pin at 190 to secure the dual, Atlantic senior Donovan Hedrington delivered, pinning Landon Lechtenberg in 1:27 to extend the Trojans’ lead to 36–23 with Glenwood’s final two matches remaining.
Glenwood closed strong as Mason Koehler (215) and Drake Buthe (285) each recorded pins, tightening the final score to 36–35. Despite the late surge, Atlantic held on to remain undefeated in the Hawkeye Ten Conference dual standings.
In the dual against Clarinda, the Trojans dominated from start to finish, winning 13 of the 14 bouts. At 106 pounds, Dayton Van Horn erased an 11–0 deficit and rallied to defeat Fisher Graves in overtime. Hunter Kinzie (113), Keaton Schroeder (120), and Collin Harris (126) each secured victories by fall to build an early cushion.
Braxton Hass claimed a forfeit at (132), while Landon Hagon cruised to a technical fall at (138). Clarinda’s lone win came at 144, where Trevor Smith pinned Carter Hadley.
