(Coburg) On today’s date at 11:32 a.m., the Red Oak Fire Department, Montgomery County Emergency Management Agency, Stanton Fire Department, Elliott Fire Department, and Essex Fire Department were dispatched to the area of 270th and D Avenue in rural Coburg for a reported field fire.
Power lines had been compromised due to high winds, causing them to arc and ignite a ditch fire. The strong winds quickly spread the fire along the south road ditch and into the nearby cornfield, resulting in approximately 4 to 5 acres burned.
Fortunately, no injuries were reported. MidAmerican Utilities responded to the scene to perform the necessary repairs. Although assistance from nearby farmers was requested for tractors and disks, the fire crews arrived before they were needed.
