(Council Bluffs) An arrest warrant has been issued for a Nebraska man in connection with a shooting incident in Council Bluffs on January 7.
The Council Bluffs Police Department says the suspect has been identified as 34-year-old Vershan B. Collins of Omaha. An arrest warrant has been issued for Attempted Murder and Domestic Assault – Display or use of Weapon 1st Offense.

Background: At approximately 8:45 a.m. on January 7, hospital staff at CHI Mercy Hospital notified police that a female victim had been dropped off with a gunshot wound to the chest. Reports indicate that a male and a female dropped the victim at the hospital before departing the premises. The investigation showed that the original incident occurred at 602 1st Ave. Investigators secured the scene at 602 1st Avenue and executed a search warrant. During the search, detectives recovered a discharged round, a casing, and forensic evidence consistent with the victim’s statement.
