(East Lansing, MI) — Juliann Woodward hit two free throws with 5 seconds left as #15 Michigan St. beat #24 Nebraska 73-71 in a Big Ten women’s basketball game on Thursday night.
Michigan St. led 36-33 at the half and jumped out to a 9 point lead in the third quarter. Nebraska came back and used a 7-0 run to take a 67-64 lead with just over 3 minutes left in the game. With the game tied at 69-69, Britt Prince hit a jumper at the free throw line to give the Huskers a 71-69 lead with 48 seconds left. The Spartans Rashunda Jones was fouled with 39 seconds left and hit both shots to tie the game again. Nebraska turned it over and Michigan St. held on to the ball before Woodward got an offensive rebound and was fouled. Her shots were the difference to get the win.
Michigan St. (17-1, 6-1) was led by Grace Van Slooten with 22 points. Jones had 15 points, 5 rebounds, 5 assists and 3 steals. Kennedy Blair added 14 points, 6 rebounds and 6 assists. The Spartans won despite only going 3-17 from three point land.
Nebraska (14-4, 3-4) was led by Amiah Hargrove off the bench with 21 points on 9-11 shooting. Prince added 16.
