(Ames, IA) — The new year has not been a good one so far for the Iowa St. women’s basketball team. West Virginia came into Hilton Coliseum on Sunday and beat the #11 ranked Cyclones 83-70.
Kierra Wheeler led WVU with 25 points including 12 in the second quarter to lead 40-39 at the half. The Mountaineers scored the first 9 points of the 2nd half to open up a 10 point lead and led 59-50 going to the 4th. A 9-0 run in the middle of the final quarter gave West Virginia a 73-56 run and that was enough to finish off ISU.
West Virginia (14-3, 4-1) forced 22 turnovers and are now 7-6 against Iowa St. when the Cyclones are ranked. Jordan Harrison added 19 points, 8 assists and 5 rebounds.
Iowa St. (14-3, 2-3) was led by Audi Crooks with 22 points and 10 rebounds. Sydney Harris had 15 and Regan Wilson added 11. Jada Williams had 7 points and 9 assists.
The Cyclones played without Addy Brown and Arianna Jackson. Brown is averaging 13.1 points, 9.3 rebounds and 5.8 assists per game but has a lower body injury and was listed as questionable in the game. Jackson leads ISU in three point shooting and could miss significant time with a leg injury.
