(Winterset) A Winterset man died when he struck a moving vehicle near Winterset on Saturday night.
The Iowa State Patrol says the accident happened at around 10:45 p.m. on Highway 169 and E. Madison Street in Winterset. Authorities identified the man as 23-year-old Logan Smith of Winterset.
According to the report, 18-year-old Jase Pettit of Afton, Iowa, was driving a 2014 Ford F250 pickup southbound on Highway 169 entering Winterset. The vehicle was just past E. Madison Street, when Smith reportedly entered the roadway from the east ditch, ran across the northbound lane and entered the southbound lane, and struck the side of the pickup. Smith was pronounced deceased at the scene.
