Both Iowa St. basketball teams were on the road on Wednesday night and the 3rd ranked Cyclone men beat Baylor 70-60 while the #11 ranked women got upset by Cincinnati 71-63.
For the men in Waco, Texas, with the game tied at 13-13 Baylor went on an 8-0 run to lead 21-13 but ISU came back with a 12-3 run to end the first half with Joshua Jefferson hitting a three pointer at the very end to give the Cyclones a 25-24 lead.
Iowa St. went on a 14-1 run to start the 2nd half to build a 39-25 lead. The Bears got it down to 5 when Obi Agbim hit a three pointer with 8:34 left but Tamin Lipsey came back with a short jumper and after a Bear miss, Jefferson got 1-2 free throws and after a missed three, Lipsey made a 10 footer to put the lead back to 10 51-41 with 6:12 left. Baylor could only get it down to a 6 point lead but ISU responded to every Bear move.
Lipsey led Iowa St. (15-0, 2-0) with 24 points on 8-12 shooting. Jefferson added 19 points and 17 rebounds. Killyan Toure had 12.
Cameron Carr led Baylor (10-4, 0-2) with 17.
The Iowa St. women were not so fortunate. Mya Perry led the Bearcats with 26 points as Cincinnati got their first win over a ranked opponent since 2011.
Audi Crooks had 23 points and has scored in double figures for 82 consecutive games which is the longest active streak in the country. Crooks also had 10 rebounds but the Bearcats outrebounded ISU 44-30. Jada Williams had 13 points and 7 assists for Iowa St. (14-2, 2-2).
Caliyah DeVillasee added 13 points and Joya Crawford had 10 for Cincinnati (6-10, 1-3).
