(Harlan) During Tuesday’s regular session, the Harlan City Council approved the sale of the City’s interest in real estate. The Council also expanded the current eligibility map and authorized an in-kind contribution of asphalt milling to support the Shelby County Fair Board and the Shelby County Speedway.
Harlan City Administrator Gervas Mgonja says an asphalt milling project will support the expansion of the campground near the Shelby County Speedway. The millings will be used to build an access road directly to the new campground area.
Mgonja says the project includes approximately 2,000 tons of asphalt millings, with an in-kind value of about $29,000, based on the City’s standard rate of $14.50 per ton. The materials will be provided as available and scheduled by the City’s Public Works Department, and in a way that does not interfere with normal city operations.
He adds that the contribution is a one-time action and does not create any ongoing obligation for the City of Harlan to provide additional materials, funding, or support to the Shelby County Fair Board or the Shelby County Speedway.
