(Corning, IA) — In a Pride of Iowa basketball doubleheader, Cael Hogan went over 1,000 points for his career in a Southwest Valley win while Nodaway Valley dominated the girls game.
Hogan was sitting on 999 points throughout the winter break and broke the barrier early in the game and helped the Timberwolves to a 71-56 win. Hogan had 10 points in the opening quarter as Southwest Valley led 14-9. Walker Bissell had 11 points in the 2nd quarter to lead the T-Wolves but Cassius Burnside hit a couple of threes and had 9 points in the 2nd to keep the Wolverines in it — Southwest led 35-30 at the half.
Nodaway Valley came out strong in the 2nd half — Jack Berg hit 2 threes and Titan Foster hit two shots on the baseline. The Wolverines jumped out in front 44-40. But. The Timberwolves answered quickly — Hogan hit a three, Evan Fast hit a three. The Wolves went on a 10-0 run and a 17-3 run to end the third quarter to retake a 56-47 lead. They kept the pressure on in the 4th quarter to finish the game.
Hogan and Walker Bissell each led the way with 22 points for Southwest Valley (8-2). Evan Fast added 8.
Ty Rardin lead Nodaway Valley (1-8) with 20 points, Titan Foster played through some pain for a courageous 13 points. Jack Berg added 8.
In the girls game, Nodaway Valley built an early lead and while the Timberwolves pressured them, the Wolverines never wavered, winning 58-44. NV led 17-8 at the end of the first quarter, 26-19 at the half and 47-32 after three quarters.
Izzy Eisbach led Nodaway Valley (9-1) with 28 points; Emma Boswell had 16 points and Abby Nelson added 11.
Hailey Randall went down with an injury in the second quarter and at the time had just 2 free throws. She returned in the 2nd half and recovered to score 13 points. Kenzie Fast also had 13 including 3 threes — she was 2-21 coming into the game. Ada Lund and Elin Hogan both had 7 points for Southwest Valley (7-3).
