(Ankeny, IA) — A man is facing murder charges after a woman was found stabbed to death in her Ankeny apartment yesterday. Local police say officers found the deceased victim while conducting a welfare check on Northeast Crestmoor Place shortly before 9 a.m. Authorities have linked Johnson Browne to the killing, saying he and the woman knew one another. Browne was already in custody after an alleged altercation with police officers who were responding to a report of someone breaking into a car on Sunday evening.
Arkansas Officials Find No Sign Of Iowa Man After Days Of Searching
(Johnson County, AR) — Authorities in Arkansas say there are no new leads in the search for a missing Iowa man. Emergency responders have covered over 12-hundred acres of the Ozark National Forest looking for Nicholas Collins since finding his car abandoned at a trail head in Johnson County, Arkansas last week. Loved ones of Collins tell law enforcement they have not heard from him since he left his home in Tama County on December 19th, leaving a note saying he was “going away for a while”. Officials say they are getting a search warrant for Collins’s vehicle in an effort to find additional leads.
Human Remains Found In Clinton
(Clinton, IA) — Police in Clinton say skeletal remains that were found near railroad tracks on December 31st have been sent to the state for more investigation. The bones were found in a wooded area and there was evidence of a previous fire there. Police say the investigation is still open and there is no ongoing threat to the public. The identity of the person has not been made.
Iowa State Auditor Proposing Mandatory Jail Time For Theft Of Public Funds
(Des Moines, IA) — Iowa State Auditor Rob Sand is proposing mandatory jail time for individuals convicted of stealing public funds. The sentencing rule is one of several legislative priorities Sand discussed yesterday. Under his plan, anyone who is found guilty of stealing at least 10-thousand dollars in taxpayer money would have to spend time behind bars and would not be eligible for probation only. Sand also says he wants to have Senate File 478 repealed, arguing the law allows state agencies to hide financial information from the auditor’s office.
Governor Reynolds Setting Up Nuclear Energy Task Force
(Des Moines, IA) — Governor Kim Reynolds is setting up a state nuclear energy task force in Iowa. The governor signed an executive order establishing the panel yesterday. She says the goal of the task force is to keep elected leaders advised on atomic energy developments as the state’s only nuclear power plant gets up and running again. NextEra Energy is working on restarting the Duane Arnold power plant in Linn County. The facility is not expected to be fully functional until 2030.
