(Corning, IA) — Southwest Valley will entertain Nodaway Valley tonight in a girls boys basketball doubleheader in the Pride of Iowa Conference, coverage on KSOM.
The Timberwolves girls team is 7-2 with losses to Martensdale St. Mary’s and Mount Ayr. Senior Hailey Randall leads the way averaging 21 points a game and Head Coach Mike Cormack says she is overshadowed by other players in the conference
Supporting Randall are Seniors Kenzie Fast (10.3 ppg and 7.7 rbg) and Ada Lund (9.4 ppg, 4.8 steals). The Timberwolves will have to find a way to contain Nodaway Valley’s Izzy Eisbach who leads the state in scoring. Cormack has a unique solution
Nodaway Valley girls are 8-1 after beating West Central Valley last night 71-36. Head Coach Brian Eisbach says you have to stop more than Randall when you stop Southwest Valley
On the boys side, Southwest Valley is 7-2 and only a game back in the conference standings. The T-wolves have a three guard line up that leads the way — Senior Cael Hogan leads at 17.4 ppg; Wyatt Mendenhall is at 15.0 ppg, and Junior Walker Bissell chips in 11.2 ppg. Mendenhall is shooting 45 percent on his threes. Head Coach Kyle Bashor says they are height challenged so they have to outwork teams in many areas
Nodaway Valley 1-6 and lost to West Central Valley last night 59-55 and is led by Sophomore Ty Rardin at 16.3 ppg and Sophomore Jack Berg contributes 11.3 ppg. The Wolverines like to run so Bashor says to slow them down starts on the defensive end
Wolverines Head Coach Mick Long knows the Timberwolves are more dangerous than just scoring
