(Des Moines) Enjoy the weekend weather, because it is about to change.
Brooke Hagenhoff, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Des Moines, says an Arctic Blast is heading this way. “There is a strong cold front coming in on Sunday,” said Hagenhoff. “When you wake up in the morning, the temperature will be the warmest you will see all day. Temperatures will fall throughout the day on Sunday with northwest winds gusting from 40 to 45 miles per hour, and higher.”
Hagenhoff says rain will change over to snow as the cold front comes through. “Snow accumulations will be light; however, there could be some blowing snow, making for some hazardous travel conditions on Sunday afternoon.”
The snow will taper off overnight on Sunday, and temperatures will be bitterly cold with highs in the teens on Monday.
The good news is that the bitterly cold temperatures are expected to moderate back into the 30s towards the middle of next week.
