(Undated) — The number of teenagers using drugs and alcohol remains at historic lows following a drop in usage during the coronavirus pandemic.
A survey by the University of Michigan Institute for Social Research shows 91 percent of eighth-graders and 66 percent of 12th-graders reported that they did not use marijuana, alcohol or nicotine. That marks five years in a row drug usage has remained lower than the pre-pandemic period among teens.
Lead researcher Richard Miech says there was an expectation teen drug use would return to pre-pandemic levels once social distancing rules went away but that hasn’t happened.
