(Lewis) Last week, the Iowa Department of Natural Resources reported Canada geese testing positive for Avian Influenza at Green Valley Lake and Lake of Three Fires.
John Lorenzen, from the DNR Office in Lewis, says an estimated 60 geese have died on Green Valley Lake, and tests have come back positive for Avian Influenza.
He notes there are other reports of dead geese at the Schildberg Recreation Area ponds in Atlantic. Lorenzen says nine geese have been found dead in the quarry ponds. Lorenzen asks the public to leave the dead geese alone.
Lorenzen adds that there have been no cases of H5 Avian influenza linked to wild birds in the United States; however, there have been cases related to close contact with infected poultry, so there is no reason to take the risk.
