(Guthrie Center, IA) — AC/GC has a strong boys wrestling program and Junior Ryder Cline has looked as impressive as anyone this year for the Chargers. Off to a 13-0 start with some impressive wins, Cline is on a mission to do better at the state tournament after going 2-4 the last two years there. Early in the season, Cline beat William Sankot of Belle Plaine 10-3 and then got a first place finish in the Riverside tournament with a 10-0 major decision over Wade Hawkins of Logan Magnolia, both are ranked wrestlers. Cline likes to get you down on the mat and then ride you which is somewhat difficult to do for high schoolers but he says he has worked at it
Cline is following in his Dad’s footsteps — Ryan Cline wrestled at Ames and finished as high as 3rd place at the state tournament. Ryder says he has been a big supporter and helps him prepare for matches
Cline realized early on that wrestling seemed to be his thing
Cline is still a junior but hopes one day to get a chance to wrestle in college but his main focus right now is getting on the podium — he says that motivated him to work hard in the summer. He does say the team is set to have a big month in January as they prepare for state qualifying
AC/GC will hit the mat in the new year on Saturday, January 3rd at the Lions Den Duals all the way in Lisbon, east of Cedar Rapids.
