(New York, NY) — Economic forecasters are predicting mortgage rates will dip only slightly next year. Freddie Mac puts the 30-year fixed-rate average at about 6-point-2 percent.
Projections released Thursday show mortgage rates staying around six percent next year. Fed Chair Jerome Powell said at a press conference Wednesday that the “housing supply is low,” and that many people still have “very, very low mortgages from the pandemic period.”
Policymakers also say they expect the Fed to make just one cut in interest rates next year.
