(Greenfield, IA) — Nodaway Valley will take on Martensdale St. Mary’s in a Pride of Iowa Girls/Boys Doubleheader tonight, coverage on KSOM and Western Iowa Today TV.
The boys are 1-2 and are coming off a 59-56 loss to Lenox. Leading scorer Ty Rardin (17.3 ppg) fouled out late and the Tigers took advantage. Wolverines Head Coach Mick Long says that his team needs to learn how to win close games
Sophomore Jack Berg (12.0 ppg) also averages in double figures for Nodaway Valley and Sophomore Titan Foster (8.7 ppg, 16.7 rbg) has been a beast on the boards. Foster will have a big challenge with MSM who is lead by 6-4 post player Colton Wright at 14.5 points a game. The Blue Devils are 2-2 with wins over GMG and Southeast Warren and losses against Mount Ayr and I-35. Long says Martensdale is usually at the top of the conference standings
On the girls side, Nodaway Valley is 1-1 on the season — Izzy Eisbach struggled in the opening game loss to Mount Ayr, going 7 of 40 from the field but still had 22 points. She rebounded in a win against Lenox, going 21 of 45 shooting and tying a school record with 51 points. Her Dad and Head Coach Brian Eisbach says she simply shook it off
Martensdale St. Mary’s is 4-1 with their only loss also coming against Mount Ayr. Eisbach says the Blue Devils seem to be good every year
