(Ames, IA) — #10 Iowa St. held off a furious rally to defeat #11 Iowa in women’s basketball 74-69 on Wednesday night.
The game was tied at 35-35 at the half but ISU built a 17 point lead with just under a minute to go in the 3rd quarter. A 10-0 Iowa run cut the Cyclones lead to 63-58 with 5:18 to go. As Iowa St. missed some key free throws, Iowa got as close as 3 several times in the 4th quarter but ISU had an answer every time. Taylor McCabe missed a three with 16 seconds left for the Hawkeyes that would have tied it and moments later Audi Crooks made 1-2 free throws to make it a two possession game.
Crooks had 30 points to lead Iowa St. on 13-20 shooting and adding 10 rebounds. Addy Brown also had a double double with 20 points and 12 rebounds plus 5 assists. Jada Williams added 11. The Cyclones were only 9-20 from the free throw line — ISU is now 11-0.
Iowa was led by Chazadi Wright with 21 points including 4-9 on her threes. Taylor McCabe had 11, Hannah Steulke had 11 points and 15 rebounds. Kylie Feuerbach was in double figures with 10. The Hawkeyes fall to 9-1.
