(Greenfield, IA) — Nodaway Valley is off to a 8-1 start in dual matches so far this season and four wrestlers are 12-0. Ashton Honnold is bidding to be a three time state champ and after going undefeated last season, the senior is 12-0 this season. Head Coach and Dad Brad Honnold says its not all about Ashton who has become a leader for the younger guys
Honnold says there will be some movement in weight classes as everybody gets into wrestling shape — Jett Christensen and Caleb Christensen are both juniors and are not related but are both 12-0, Jett at 138 with the intentions of moving to 132 and Caleb at 215 who has wrestled against Ashton Honnold and recent grad Trent Warner in the room. Keyin Steeve was injured to start the season but made it on the mat at 144 on Monday, going 2-1. Ty Strode is 12-0 at 132 and may settle at 138. Freshman Thomas Herrick is 12-1 at 126 and Sophomore Josh Nelson is 12-0 at 113. Honnold says both have stood out
Honnold needs his middleweights to improve — the 157 to 190 weights have some of the toughest competition and Honnold believes in his guys there to pick it up
Nodaway Valley will be in the Riverside tournament this Saturday.
