(Elk Horn, IA) — Coon Rapids Bayard will visit Exira EHK in a Rolling Valley Conference basketball doubleheader tonight, coverage on KSOM.
On the girls side, both teams are ranked — the Spartans #8 and the Crusaders #14 both in Class 1A and both teams are 2-1. Exira EHK is 2-1 with blowout wins over Boyer Valley and Ar-We-Va and an opening season loss to Riverside. Taryn Petersen is leading the way averaging 23.7 points per game. Her cousin Jaelynn Petersen averages 11.3 ppg and Harlow Miller has come out for basketball and is at 8.7 ppg. The Spartans are only shooting 19 percent from three point land but that does not worry Head Coach Tom Petersen
CRB has beaten Paton Churdan and Woodward Granger and lost by 10 to Kuemper Catholic. The Crusaders are led by Anna Hart who averages 16.0 points per game, getting most of her points in the lane — she is only 4 of 16 on her threes. Coon Rapids Bayard has only hit 22 percent from three point land. However, the area that they do stand out says Petersen is their defense
On the boys side, Exira EHK is 0-3 under new Head Coach Jackson Radcliff and he says that Austin Rasmussen and Owen Juhl are leading the way
Exira EHK lost to Riverside 70-26, Ar-We-Va 63-42 and Boyer Valley 75-33. Offense is hard to come by so Radcliff says defense will be the key tonight against CRB
Cal Heydon is averaging 27.7 points a game so keeping him to 10 or under will be a daunting task. The Crusaders are 3-0 — beating Audubon 54-49 in their opener and then getting 2 blowout wins against Woodward Granger and Paton Churdan.
