(Atlantic) The Cass County Democrats held their annual Christmas gathering this week, focusing on community support and hearing from several Democratic candidates running for office in 2026.
Attendees donated winter clothing items to Cass County West Central Community Action (WCCA), along with a cash contribution from the Cass County Democrats. Emily Warner, Director of the Cass County WCCA office, provided a brief overview of the agency’s programs and noted that the need for assistance is rising. She said federal funding cuts have reduced food availability and impacted several support programs, increasing pressure on local families. WCCA’s mission is “Empowering families and individuals to achieve their highest potential.”
Several candidates for upcoming Congressional races mingled with attendees and spoke during the event. Josh Turek of Council Bluffs, currently serving in the Iowa House of Representatives, is running for the U.S. Senate. Xavier Carrigan of Waukee and Jennifer Konfrst of Windsor Heights are both seeking the Democratic nomination for Iowa’s Third District Congressional seat.
C.J. Petersen also addressed the crowd on behalf of Rob Sand, who is running for governor.
