(Guthrie County) — One person and a canine were killed in a shed fire early Saturday morning in rural Guthrie County.
According to a press release, Guthrie Center and Panora EMS were dispatched at 5:17 a.m. on Saturday to a report of a shed fire at 2094 Hickory Avenue. When crews arrived, they found the structure fully engulfed in flames and threatening a nearby home. Emergency personnel alerted the residents, who evacuated safely.
Firefighters contained the blaze and prevented it from spreading to the house. While extinguishing the fire, first responders discovered a deceased individual and a deceased canine inside the shed.
The scene has since been turned over to the State Fire Marshal’s Office and the Guthrie County Sheriff’s Office for further investigation.
Responding agencies included the Guthrie County Fire Department, Panora EMS, Coon Rapids Fire Department, Bayard Fire Department, Guthrie County Sheriff’s Office, Guthrie County EMS, and the State Fire Marshal’s Office.
