(Anita, IA) — CAM Wrestling’s Jason Rouse has stepped down from the head coach position and the role has been filled by Ford Lillard. Lillard graduated from Anita High School in 2003 and wrestled for the late and great Rex Mehrhoff who had coached wrestling for over 30 years. After graduating, Lillard would enroll in the Army, where his wrestling experience continued:
The CAM Cougars have a few meets under their belt so far this season, and despite a small squad of eight wrestlers this season, Lillard says the kids have been very coachable so far and hungry for success:
Lillard says there was a learning curve that came along with becoming head coach but is confident that he and the wrestlers will get into a rhythm as the year progresses:
On Saturday, CAM competed in the Coach Riley Invitational in Greenfield hosted by Nodaway Valley. Six wrestlers competed with Reilly Becker the top finisher in 4th place at 120 pounds. Bretntyn Hoover was 5th at 165 pounds. Lillard and his wrestlers will look to continue improving as they host Griswold, Shenandoah, and Kuemper Catholic in a quadrangular tomorrow evening at 5:30.
