(Red Oak, IA) — At Tuesday’s meeting, Andrea Gomez from Waubonsie Medical Center spoke to the Montgomery County Board of Supervisors about how the current nation-wide battle with drug abuse is affecting southwest Iowa and the ways in which funding from the board would be utilized to increase support for Montgomery county residents. Gomez requested funding for several different fronts, including curriculums, staff development, and transportation for treatment. Gomez says that Iowa had one of the lowest Narcan dispensing rates in the country in 2023, and that rural Iowa could be at risk due to a lack of resources:
The total funding amount would end up in the range of $10,000 if accepted, and the board will discuss the request in the coming weeks. The next Montgomery Board of Supervisors regular meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, December 9th at 9:00 A.M.
