(Atlantic) North Polk jumped out to a 19-6 lead by the end of the first quarter and capped off the game with a 77-51 victory over Atlantic on Monday night at Atlantic.
Jason Slings was the standout for the Comets, scoring 24 points, while Jack Spieker contributed 17. For the Trojans, Kale Jensen led the scoring with 17 points, and Gavin McLaren added 8.
The Comets, guided by their new head coach and Atlantic alum, Alan Jenkins, got off to a quick start, spearheaded by Slings, who netted 17 points in the first half, including two three-pointers. Although they fell behind early, the Trojans regrouped and matched the Comets nearly shot-for-shot in the second quarter, getting outscored 19-18, and went into halftime trailing 38-24.
Kale Jensen attacked the rim during the game’s entirety, earning multiple trips to the free-throw line, making 5-8 from the charity stripe. Besides Jensen and Gavin McLaren, Grant Petty added seven points, Hudson McLaren and Sawyer Tarrell, 6 each, Shelton Mualia, 4, Hunter Nelson, 2, and Corbin Ritter, 4.
Besides Slings, 24, and Jack Spieker’s 17, Cale Pedersen pitched in 9, and Chase Krings, 7.
Atlantic travels to Glenwood on Friday night. North Polk hosts Pella.
