(Atlantic) The Atlantic boys’ basketball team opens its season tonight at home against North Polk. This will be the Trojans’ first official competition. Atlantic Head Coach Dalton Franken said the Trojans have played in two scrimmages with Indianola and Des Moines Hoover.
North Polk is under a new Head Alan Jenkins, a former Atlantic graduate and Atlantic and Southeast Polk Head Basketball Coach. Coach Franken says the Comets bring back their two leading scorers from last season, Jack Spieker (10.00 ppg), and Jayson Slings (9.14 ppg).
Coach Franken says we must take care of the basketball, play sound defense, hold teams to one-and-done, and get out in transition.
The Trojans return leading scorer Gavin McLaren, (12.86 ppg), along with Grant Petty, (7.6 ppg), and Shelton Mualia, (6.75 ppg). McLaren also led the team in rebounds with 6.0 boards per game. Mualia, averaged (5.3).
The game will tip off after the Atlantic vs St. Albert girls’ basketball game.
We will have the broadcast on 95.7 FM and live-streamed on westerniowatoday.com TV and YouTube.
