Dorothy Welch Iowa passed away on Tuesday, November 25, 2025, at her sister’s home in Greenfield. She was born on a farm near Cumberland, Iowa, on August 31, 1932, the daughter of James and Anna (Maas) Huddleson.
Dorothy’s family moved to a farm west of Massena when she was 10 years old and she graduated from Massena High School. She was united in marriage to James Anstey in 1950, to that union one son, James was born. Dorothy worked for three doctors in Massena and trained to be a lab technician. She was later employed at the Adair County Memorial Hospital in Greenfield as a lab technician. In 1956, she married Howard Welch. She later worked for Schildberg Construction as a bookkeeper.
Dorothy and Howard loved to travel and in retirement made their home in Texas. One of Dorothy’s hobbies was music, and she played the keyboard in a band entertaining in the Rio Grande Valley. When her eyesight failed, she returned to Iowa to be with her family.
She was preceded by her parents; son, James; husband, Howard; sister, Georgia Fletcher; brothers-in-law, Leland Fletcher and Leo Armstong; and one niece.
She is survived by her sister, Rosemary Armstrong of Greenfield, Iowa; several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Graveside Services: Will be held at a later date in the Greenfield Cemetery. The Lamb Funeral Home in Greenfield is in charge of the professional arrangements. Online condolences may be left to the family at www.lambfuneralhomes.com.
