(Atlantic) Atlantic senior girls’ wrestler Haley Armstrong is the KS 95.7 Armour Insurance Athlete of the week for her performance at the Central Iowa Varsity Kickoff Wrestling Tournament at Nevada on Saturday.
The senior wrestling at (235) defended her number one seed, winning by fall in the finals. Armstrong drew a bye to the semi-finals and pinned Aysia Mosier of Ankeny in 30 seconds. She advanced to the championship match and won by fall over junior Kinley Jimenez of South Tama in 2:58.
Armstrong fell behind early, 3-1. Atlantic Head Coach Mike Greving says she didn’t panic.
Coach Greving says one of Armstrong’s main attributes is her competitiveness and her love of wrestling. He says she started competing at a young age and has stuck with it.
Haley Armstrong is ranked No. 1 by several Iowa high school polls, and she proved that ranking with victory in the 235-pound bracket at the Central Iowa Girls Varsity Kickoff Saturday in Nevada.
