Robert Wade Traylor, born on March 31, 1935, in Beatrice, NE, passed away on November 22, 2025, at Primrose Retirement Village in Council Bluffs, IA, at the age of 90 years, 7 months, and 23 days. He grew up near the Cathedral in Omaha and attended Cathedral High School. Robert pursued higher education at Omaha University and Creighton, earning a bachelor’s degree in general education from UNO and a master’s in education from Iowa University.
Robert dedicated 35 years of his life to teaching and coaching at ISD. He was a passionate educator and mentor, impacting countless students throughout his career. He was also an avid sports enthusiast, having played varsity baseball and JV basketball during his school years.
Robert was a devoted member of St. Patrick’s Church and a previous member of the Knights of Columbus. He cherished his family and enjoyed watching his grandchildren’s sports activities. He had a love for Dr Pepper, Nebraska football, Notre Dame Football, and any high school or college sport he could watch. He moved to Primrose Retirement Community in December, and was very grateful for the kindness and compassion that was shown there.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Paula Stout Traylor, his parents Agnes McGillicuddy and Walter Wade Traylor, and his daughter, Pam Schroder.
He is survived by his son, Robb Traylor and spouse Greg Rice of Kansas City, MO; son-in-law, John Schroder of Oakland, IA; grandchildren, Hannah (Schroder) & Trey Jackson of La Plata, MO, Ben Schroder and Mick Schroder of Oakland, IA; and great-granddaughter, Evelyn Jackson of La Plata, MO.
Robert’s legacy of love, education, and sportsmanship will be fondly remembered by all who knew him.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, November 26, 2025, at 10:30 AM, at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Council Bluffs, IA. Visitation with the family will start at 10:00 AM at the church. Interment will be at Calvary Cemetery in Omaha, NE. Rieken Vieth Funeral Home in Oakland is assisting the family.
