(Atlantic) Two ranked teams in their respective classes square off in a non-conference girls’ basketball game this evening. Treynor, ranked second in Class 2A, travels to Atlantic, ranked 10th in Class 3A.
Atlantic Head Coach Dan Vargason notes that Treynor has everyone back after posting a 21-4 record last season and advancing to the state tournament. Nora Konz returns as Treynor’s leading scorer, averaging 14.6 points per game, Claire Schrage averaged over eight points per game, among other talented players.
Likewise, the Trojans return nearly their entire line-up from last season’s 18-7 squad. Senior Makenna Schroeder averaged 11.0 points per game and shot 30 percent from behind the three-point line, making 42 three-pointers. Senior forward Katrina Williams averaged 10.12 points per game, with 163 rebounds. Zoey Kirchhoff averaged eight points per game and 49 steals. The difference is that some players are playing in some new spots.
The Trojans experienced some competition last Tuesday night with a scrimmage against West Central Valley. Vargason says that besides the regulars, other players received some valuable minutes.
The tip-off is at 6:30 p.m.
