(Pottawattamie Co.) The Pottawattamie County Board of Supervisor signed the National Adoption Day Proclamation for November 22, 2025.
The proclamation states, in part, that Pottawattamie County highlights the need for permanent, loving homes for children in foster care, noting that thousands nationwide—and more than 600 in Iowa—are waiting for adoption. Over 50 of those children are in Iowa’s Fourth Judicial District. To support these children and celebrate adoptive families, the county will host National Adoption Day events at the Pottawattamie County Courthouse on November 22, 2025.
The Supervisors also signed a proclamation supporting GIS Day on November 19th.
Pottawattamie County recognizes the importance of geographic information systems (GIS) in supporting infrastructure, natural resources, public welfare, and economic growth. The proclamation highlights the value of GIS for understanding complex information, promoting education and training, supporting nonprofits, and encouraging STEM engagement. It acknowledges professionals who use GIS to improve the community and affirms the county’s commitment to using GIS for informed decision-making and public access to geographic data.
In other activity, the Supervisors named Brian Shea as Chairman of the Board and Tim Wichman as Chair Pro-Tem for the remainder of 2025. Last week Scott Belt resigned as Chair of the Board. Most recently, a judge suspended Belt pending a hearing on a petition filed by County Attorney Matt Wilber to remove him from office.
