(State) An enforcement project across the state of Iowa on Tuesday will focus on hands-free driving.
The hands-free law took effect on July 1, 2025. Iowa State Patrol Trooper and District 4 Public Information Officer Shelby McCreedy said that as part of the six-month grace period, troopers are taking a few days to focus primarily on hands-free enforcement — and Tuesday is one of those days.
Trooper McCreedy broke down the number of warnings that have been issued since the law went into effect about 140 days ago.
Beginning January 1st, a standard violation of the hands-free law is a $100 fine.
