(Treynor, IA) — Another great season is in the books for the Cardinals who went 9-2 and took home the district championship for the second year in a row. Their high-scoring offense was led by seniors Ethan Hill and Jett Sornson, with the former notching 1743 passing yards on the season and Sornson rushing for 1276 yards. Head Coach Jeff Casey on the season:
Treynor will have some shoes to fill, however, as they graduate 12 seniors going into the 2026-2027 season. The Cardinals’ young offensive line will remain the same next season and some skill players will also return, such as Brock Casey who received the second-most yards for the team with 398. Casey says the graduating class was impactful in all phases of the game:
Treynor was hot to start off the season with a blowout win over the Riverside Bulldogs, followed by a 21-13 loss to a 2A State Championship qualifying Van Meter team. The Cardinals then finished untouched throughout the rest of the regular season with an excellent 242-point differential. In the postseason, Treynor took wins over Ogden and Hinton in the first and second rounds, but couldn’t keep up with a ground-and-pound South Hardin offense in the quarterfinals. Casey says the offseason will consist of keeping the team’s strength and stamina up to standards:
The Cardinals will look to remain a strong contender in Class 1A next season.
