(Des Moines) The Iowa Transportation Commission has approved $3,127,377 in funding for nine projects under the State Recreational Trails Program, with two of the projects benefiting southwest Iowa.
Among the recipients in southwest Iowa are the Great American Rail Trail project from Weston to Underwood in Pottawattamie County, which received $500,000, and the Wabash Trace Rapp Park Connector Trail in Page County, awarded $285,000.
Established in 1988, the State Recreational Trails Program supports the development and maintenance of recreational trails and related facilities for both motorized and non-motorized users. The funding is distributed annually through an application process open to cities, counties, state agencies, local governments, and nonprofit organizations.
