(Anita — Greenfield, IA) — Girls wrestling teams have been practicing since last Monday and SWAT is poised to have another strong season. There are two schools left with SWAT — CAM and Nodaway Valley — and Head Coach Tyler South says there are 10 wrestlers in the room this year. However, many of them will have a chance at going to the state tournament. Juniors Bailey Lillard (28-6) and Destiny Fry (33-12) were both state qualifiers a year ago and both went 1-2 and South says they are poised to try and get on the podium. Then there are Juniors Stella Beattie (38-5) Megan Gerlock (28-10) who both came close to state last year. South says that Gerlock has not realized her potential yet
Another who just missed state last year was Nadia South (35-12) who is now a Sophomore and Tyler South says experience will make her better
The only senior on SWAT is Lily Barber (15-6) who only just came out for the sport last year and South says she has come a long way in a short amount of time
SWAT will open their new wrestling season on Thursday, November 20.
