(Atlantic) Founded in 2003, the National Nurses Honor Guard has more than 250 groups across the United States. The Cass Health Nurses Honor Guard was founded in 2024 and has quickly grown to 25 members.
Terry Carey and Mary Brasfield are retired nurses and members of the Cass Health Nurses Honor Guard. Carey says this is a volunteer program comprised of current and former nurses, which provides services to nurses who have passed away.
The Nurses Honor Guard also participates in parades, honor walks, and live tributes. Mary Brasfield says the organization also does tributes for nurses who are retiring.
Brasfield says nursing comes from the heart and their empathy.
The Cass County Health Nurses Honor Guard will be hosting a fundraiser at the Pizza Ranch in Atlantic on Thursday, November 20, from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. Portions of every dine-in or take-out purchase will directly support the Nurses Honor Guard’s mission to honor the dedicated nurses who devoted their lives to caring for others. Proceeds from this event will be used to purchase meaningful gifts for families.
Current or former nurses interested in joining this volunteer organization, or who would like the organization to call on their loved one’s service, can call 712-243-7575.
