(Area) — The following players were nominated by their coaches for the “You Can” Award from the Iowa Girls Coaches Association.
Dakota Somers, Riverside
Dakota Somers is one of the most genuine, caring teammates I have ever coached. She has big
goals that she wants to achieve, but she is willing to be patient, learn from others, and support
everyone no matter who they are. She has been a huge asset for us this season as a JV player and
Varsity role player. Dakota always brings a fun-loving, competitive, talkative energy to the gym
no matter her role.

Kaitlyn Platt, CAM
Kaitlyn is the definition of team player. She always came to practice with a positive attitude and
kept things upbeat. Even though she may not have played much she was a vital role on our team.
She was there cheering every single game and cheering for every single teammate.

Ella Heithoff, Coon Rapids-Bayard
Ella is energetic, positive, and always in a good mood. She brings that energy to every practice
and game. She is willing to play any position we need her in and gives it her all.

Kelby is a DS and she brings a lot of energy, enthusiasm, and positivity to our team. She is
always happy and doing her very best. She listens and is very coachable and wants what is best
for our team. She is a great teammate and leader.

BreAnn Hartwigsen, Glidden-Ralston
Bre is a great leader who always shows up and supports her teammates. She is everyone’s biggest
cheerleader whether she is on the court or on the bench. She is a great role model for her younger
teammates, helping them believe in themselves and becoming better volleyball players every
day. Bre wasn’t blessed with natural athletic ability, she has had to work hard every day to earn a
starting spot. Her hard work shows that anyone can be successful at volleyball if they put their
mind to it.
Nominated by: Colby Schumann Head Coach Glidden-Ralston Volleyball
Danica Isom, Panorama
Dani is an athlete that shows up to everything and always has a positive attitude. Dani is a hard
worker during season.and during the off-season summer. She puts in time and good energy and it
doesn’t go unnoticed and is greatly appreciated. Dani has also made huge growth over the last 2
seasons as a player and a person.
Nominated by: Mollie Lint Head Coach Panorama Volleyball
Meleah Speichinger, West Central Valley
Meleah shows up to every practice with a positive attitude and a genuine love for the game. Even
though she may not be the top scorer or the most naturally gifted player on the court, her work
ethic, consistency, and team-first mindset make her an extremely valuable part of our program.
She is the first to cheer for her teammates and she treats everyone with kindness and respect,
from her teammates to her coaches to the officials. What stands out most about Meleah is her
character. She never complains, or gives less than her best. She understands that being a great
athlete is about more than talent, it’s also about dedication, teamwork, and heart. Her
commitment to the sport and her teammates is something I have enjoyed watching the past 4
years.
